S.O.S – Four Steps to De-Clutter Your Mind

Summer is here finally and we luckily survived the craziness that the last few months has brought us. Surprisingly though, summer for me doesn’t slow down much. Can you relate? I’m literally scrambling for any free minute I can get this lately.

Do you ever find yourself realizing that you’re spread way too thin? Is your busyness self imposed? Has it made you feel a little off balanced? Perhaps cheated a little from the supposed “free time” that you was once given to you as a child in the summertime? There are transitions happening that throw us off our game just a bit, but there is hope to regain the margin you need in your life.

If you’ve watched the news lately you will be reminded that Mother Nature is also transitioning seasons and with that comes crazy weather. A few weeks ago, there were 29 reported tornadoes that touched down throughout the central US. If you were affected by these terrible storms, my heart goes out to you. What a scary experience and situation that must have been. I hope that with the help of sirens and weather warnings, you were able to prepare for what came your way.

In weather folklore, there’s the saying, “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb” or “when clouds look like black smoke, a wise man will put on his cloak.” Some of you can relate to this one, “when your joints all start to ache, rainy weather is at stake.”

We’ve used this weather folklore to help us predict future weather events or at least be on alert. These sayings were created because we used our superpower of observation and took notice of our natural world to find clues of what mother nature would bring. These proverb clues were what helped farmers know when to plant, or sailors know when to set out to sea. Weather really does effect a lot of our decisions everyday. Though some of these folkloric sayings have some validity, it shows that we just can’t help but try to predict what the future holds.

Now with the help of modern technology and meteorologists, we can predict almost exactly what type of weather is coming our way.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do the same for our daily life?

Whether we know what’s coming our way or not, transitions always bring with them some level of uncertainty. Perhaps even levels of anxiety.

Perhaps you’re dealing with a life transition now. Transitions that make you stop in your tracks and make you question everything you know. It could be a health issue, a career change, or relationship in question. How do we face both the happy and scary transitions in life?

This is when we need to rely on our own life proverbs to help warn of what could come our way. Sayings like…

“A watched pot never boils.”

“Beware the door with too many keys.”

“Don’t try to reinvent the wheel.”

“Even though you have 10,000 fields you can only eat one measure of rice a day.”

“Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.”
